Congratulations to Two Mile House GAA Club on becoming Pittman Traffic & Safety Intermediate Football Champions for 2018. The Kildare championship was immensely competitive from start to finish and yesterday’s feature event capped off a proud & exciting first year for Pittman as sponsors. Monasterevan & Two Mile House served up an immensely enjoyable game of football played in great spirit eventually finishing 0-16 to 1-8 in favour of the Naas based outfit.
Two Mile House carried the favourites tag into St.Conleth’s Park and it was them that came out of the traps all guns blazing. County players Cian Healy & Peter Kelly (Captain) linked up well early on creating dangerous overlaps and scoring chances. Two Mile House opened-up a 0-4 to 0-1 lead within the opening 10 minutes as Aiden Casey had his shooting boots on for “The House”. As the first half went on Two Mile House continued their control but did squander two potential goal scoring opportunities leaving themselves wondering how they were not at least nine points to the good.
Monasterevan depended on counter attack football for the majority of the first half with Padraig Nash’s solo effort inside the first quarter a contender for score of the game. The turning point in the Pittman Intermediate Football Championship final came unquestionably just before half time when Monasterevan missed the chance to draw level from the penalty spot. It finished 0-9 to 0-5 in favour of Two Mile House at half time.
Monasterevan rallied again early in the second period but missed a second chance to go level when substitute keeper Didier Cordonnier made a world class save denying Ryan Bannon who was clean through on goal. Two Mile House took further control after this and scored three unanswered points to go 0-13 to 0-7 points ahead after 55 minutes. Aiden Casey was man of the match for the favourites but Peter Kelly (Captain), Cian Healy & Didier Cordonnier all played a major part in a comprehensive victory at the finish.
Pittman Traffic & Safety would like to mention how fantastic it was to witness Adam Burke on the field lifting the trophy. A young man who has fought an extraordinary battle following a life threating injury suffered on the GAA field just over two years ago. Take a bow Adam, continue your amazing work!
